Bridging Law and Landscape: A Policy Brief on the EU Nature Restoration Law for Irish Stakeholder
Project type
Policy Brief
More details
The EU Nature Restoration Law is a landmark regulation adopted in 2024 as part of the European Green Deal and the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. It sets legally binding targets for all EU Member States to restore degraded ecosystems across terrestrial, freshwater, coastal, and marine environments
The law prioritizes restoration in ecosystems with the greatest potential for carbon capture and biodiversity gains—such as peatlands, forests, rivers, and farmlands—while encouraging integration with other EU policies.

For this project, I developed a targeted policy brief for Irish environmental researchers and local land managers. The brief synthesized key legal obligations under the proposed EU Nature Restoration Law and contextualized them within Ireland’s unique ecological landscape, focusing on biomes, stakeholder challenges, policy navigation.
The brief aimed to support evidence-based decision-making and guide collaborative planning among Irish stakeholders navigating the new legal framework.
