Susana Paola Navas Hernández
Bio
I am an environmental policy advisor and researcher with extensive experience supporting governmental efforts in tackling global environmental challenges. I collaborated with the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) process to develop a binding international agreement addressing plastic pollution. With expertise in policy analysis and strategic planning, I excel in creating comprehensive, evidence-based documents that contribute to national and international policy discussions.

Education
With a Master of Arts in Environmental Resource Policy from The George Washington University and a background in economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, I am passionate about translating complex environmental data into actionable policy recommendations that drive change.
Professional Experience
I worked on Peru's National Plan of Strategic Development 2050, diving deep into environmental research and analyzing key indicators related to biodiversity, climate change, and governance.
I conducted a territorial diagnosis for Peru’s 26 regions, identifying tangible and intangible assets, categorizing 106 into 18 groups. I created a database with visualizations and maps in Excel.
Research and analysis in environmental policy, information synthesis, and drafting background notes on plastic economics, value chain, chemical identification, and polymers.
During my time at the Ministry of Education in Lima, I managed $9 million in educational programs, ensuring everything ran efficiently. I also spent some time at ISS in Maryland, focusing on corporate sustainability and shareholder value, providing research and advice on environmental and social governance.
Before that, I was a Strategic Planning Consultant at CEPLAN in Lima, where I helped ministries and local governments enhance their strategic planning and contributed to Peru’s National Development Plan. I also had the opportunity to assist in organizing climate change mitigation scenarios for COP 20.
